Social Sciences
The Social Sciences learning area is about how societies work and how people can participate as critical, active, informed and responsible citizens. Contexts are drawn from the past, present and future and from places within and beyond New Zealand.
Social Sciences is divided into 4 Subject Areas.
Social Studies
Year 9 and 10
Students develop skills
and knowledge to better understand and contribute to local and global issues such as peace and child labour.
History
Year 11, 12 and 13
The How and Why of historical events are explored
and how they impact on our world today. Each year level offers a full NCEA course up to 24 credits.
Geography
Year 11, 12 and 13
The natural world including natural landscapes, human impact, world resources, development and tourism are all explored with contemporary contexts.
Each year level offers a full NCEA course up to 24 credits.
Classical Studies
Year 13 only
A study of ancient civilisations of Greece and Rome. A multi-disciplinary subject covering a variety of areas including mythology, philosophy, literature, history and art.
This is a full NCEA course offering up to 24 credits.
