Gateway
Limited places are available for selected senior students offering the opportunity to participate in workplace assessment for 10 plus credits towards NZQA qualifications. Ideally students opting for this course will also choose other Unit Standards subjects such as Practical English, Home Economics, Textiles Technology and Information Technology. Work placement is a requirement of the course. Selection into this course is on an individual basis in consultation with HOD Transition. Vocational areas include: Child Care, Hairdressing, Retailing, Agriculture, Automotive, Horticulture, Equine.
Gateway is a programme which enables senior students to achieve industry Unit Standards through structured workplace learning.
We need placements in the following industries
· Fashion
· Hairdressing
· Hospitality
· Retail
· Travel and Tourism
· Business Administration
Students usually attend their workplace one day a week. Support is provided by the co-ordinator and administrator of the programme at Sacred Heart College. Students do not receive any payment for this placement.

STAR
The Secondary Tertiary Alignment Resource (STAR) funding enables secondary schools to offer a range of vocational training options to senior students. Limited places will be available. Tourism is the main vocational area of this course. However opportunities in short courses can be offered in Hospitality, Office Systems, Computing, Horticulture and Agriculture. Selection into this course is on an individual basis in consultation with HOD Transition.
SPEC
SPEC (South Pacific Educational Courses). The SPEC programme has been developed by New Zealand teachers as an individual student-centred approach to learning. It offers students a wide range of options to carry out relevant and meaningful tasks that enhance learning and provide opportunities for personal growth. There is a focus on Key Competencies which provide skills that assist students to develop a sound basis for life long learning.
Students may enter the course at a level relevant to their learning needs. On completion of the tasks there is an opportunity to provide evidence to meet a selection of Unit Standards.
